IS THIS YOU?

Most people reading this page are thinking one of these things:

There's a lump under my skin and I want to know what it is.
I've had this cyst for years and it keeps flaring up.
There's a skin tag that catches on everything I wear.
I've got a mole I hate seeing in every photo.
The GP says it's harmless, but they won't remove it.
I just want it gone, neatly, with as little scarring as possible.
Not every lesion is serious, but plenty are uncomfortable, unsightly, or simply unwanted. Whatever yours is, the path is the same: a specialist confirms exactly what it is, then removes it properly if that's what you choose.
DIAGNOSIS FIRST, REMOVAL SECOND

How benign lesion removal works

Benign lesion removal is the assessment and removal of non-cancerous skin growths such as skin tags, cysts, lipomas, warts and moles. Every lesion is examined first, with dermoscopy where needed, to confirm it's benign; removal is then carried out under local anaesthetic using the technique best suited to the lesion, from surgical excision to cryotherapy or shave removal. Excised tissue is sent for histology, so you get certainty as well as a result you can see.

That diagnosis-first sequence matters. Most NHS pathways won't remove benign lesions at all, and many private providers remove without properly checking. At Apex, the same consultant team that runs a skin cancer service assesses every lesion, which means the rare one that isn't what it seems gets caught, not polished off.
WHAT WE REMOVE

Lumps, Bumps And Growths We Treat

Small benign growths, often on the neck, underarms or eyelids, removed by cryotherapy, cautery or surgical snip excision. Skin tag removal is usually a single short appointment.

Soft, round lumps under the skin that can become inflamed or infected. Removed by minor surgical excision under local anaesthetic, including the sac, to reduce recurrence.

Slow-growing fatty lumps, usually painless, removed when they become large, uncomfortable or cosmetically concerning.

Waxy, crusty brown growths that can resemble moles or warts. Harmless, but removable for comfort or appearance using curettage, cryotherapy or excision.

Firm, button-like nodules, often on the legs or arms; harmless but sometimes itchy or bothersome. Removed for symptom relief or cosmetic reasons.

Every mole is assessed for malignancy risk first. Confirmed-benign moles causing discomfort or cosmetic concern are removed under local anaesthetic, with particular care on visible areas such as the face and neck.

WHICH TECHNIQUE IS RIGHT?

Excision, freezing, or leave it alone?

Surgical excision removes the lesion completely in one session, with histology on the tissue; it's the right call for cysts, lipomas, moles and anything where certainty matters. Minor excisions take 15 to 30 minutes under local anaesthetic; stitches, where used, come out at 5 to 14 days. Cryotherapy freezes smaller surface lesions such as warts, tags and keratoses, with no cutting at all. Shave or snip removal and curettage suit raised lesions where a full excision isn't needed. Scar revision is also available for old surgical or trauma scars, using excisional revision, steroid injections for raised or keloid scars, and topical therapies.

And sometimes the honest answer is to leave a lesion alone. Assessment tells you which of these applies; the choice is then yours, made with full information rather than a sales pitch.
Consultant-led care

Led by a Skin Cancer

Specialist You Can Trust.

Your removal is performed by consultant dermatologists and plastic surgeons, the same team that handles complex skin cancer surgery every week. That matters twice over: every lesion is assessed by people trained to spot the rare one that isn't benign, and closure on cosmetically sensitive sites is planned by a plastic surgeon, not rushed by a technician. It's the difference between a removal clinic and a skin clinic that also removes things.
Your clinical team:

Mr Benjamin Chun-Man Lee

YOUR CARE, STEP BY STEP

From assessment to healed skin

Most patients get assessment, decision and removal in a single visit. The steps below cover the whole journey, histology included, because certainty is part of the service.

1

Assessment

A specialist reviews your concern and history, examines the lesion with clinical inspection and dermoscopy, and confirms whether it's benign, suspicious, or nothing to worry about.

2

Your decision

Removal, monitoring, or no treatment, with the cosmetic and surgical options explained honestly. Nothing is booked in the room unless you want it to be.

3

The procedure

Under local anaesthetic, typically 15 to 60 minutes depending on the lesion. Many removals can happen at the same visit as assessment.

4

Healing

Most minor removals heal within 7 to 14 days. You'll leave with clear wound care instructions, and scar care guidance including silicone gel, massage and sun protection.

5

Results

Excised lesions go to histology, and your results are confirmed to you. If stitches were used, they're removed at your review.
Transparent Pricing

Skin Tag removal pricing

An initial full-body appointment builds a clear baseline of your skin and existing moles, helping determine your individual risk and the right follow-up plan. For some patients a single assessment provides reassurance. For others, particularly those with multiple moles or higher risk factors, regular monitoring supports early detection.

Every lesion is examined and confirmed benign before removal is offered. Your fee is confirmed when you book.

ONGOING CARE

After your procedure

Mild tenderness, redness or swelling settles within a few days, and most patients return to normal activities immediately. Your histology result closes the loop with certainty about what was removed. Most benign lesions don't return once fully removed, though warts and some cysts can occasionally recur; if yours does, we'll tell you the realistic options rather than just booking another session.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about lesion removal at Apex Medical

You often can't tell by looking, which is exactly why assessment comes first. Your consultant examines the lesion with dermoscopy to distinguish benign growths such as cysts, lipomas and moles from anything suspicious. If any feature raises doubt, a biopsy or excision with histology gives a definitive answer.

Procedures are performed under local anaesthetic, so the area is numb. You may feel mild pressure during treatment, and slight tenderness for a few days afterwards.

Any excision leaves some mark, but technique matters enormously. We use precise surgical methods with plastic surgeon input on visible areas, plus structured scar care afterwards, to keep it as small and faint as possible. Cryotherapy and shave removal often leave little or no visible mark.

Yes, once a mole has been assessed and confirmed benign. We take particular care on the face, neck and décolletage, and can arrange histology for added reassurance.

Minor removals typically heal within 7 to 14 days. Stitches, where used, are removed after about a week, and most patients resume normal activities straight away.

Most don't return once completely removed. Warts, cysts and some inflammatory lesions can occasionally recur and need a further session; meticulous technique keeps that risk low.

We treat adults and older teenagers routinely. For younger children the right approach depends on the lesion, its location and the child's comfort; some are best monitored, others removed safely under local anaesthetic. We'll advise honestly on suitability.

Usually, yes. Benign lesions are rarely removed on the NHS because treatment is classed as cosmetic. Privately, once a lesion is confirmed benign, removal is your choice, and it's one of the most common procedures we do.

Skin tag removal by cryotherapy, snip or shave starts from £500. Surgical excision (cysts, lipomas and benign moles, with histology) is from £1,200. Your exact written quote is confirmed at assessment, before anything is booked.
