IS THIS YOU?

Most people reading this page are thinking one of these things:

There's a mole I've been keeping an eye on, and I'd rather know than wonder.
I found something new and Google has made it worse.
I've had skin cancer before and I'm due a proper check.
My GP wasn't worried, but I'd feel better hearing it from a specialist.
I never check my own skin and I know I should.
I just want everything checked, properly, once a year.
You don't need to arrive knowing whether it's a freckle, a wart or something more. That's the point of the appointment: a specialist looks, and you leave with an answer.
WHAT'S INCLUDED

What happens at a private skin cancer screening?

A skin cancer screening is a head-to-toe examination of your skin by a clinician trained in spotting the early signs of melanoma, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. At Apex, every screening uses digital dermoscopy, a magnified view beneath the skin's surface that is the gold standard for assessing moles and lesions.

1

Full-body skin check

A comprehensive, consultant-led examination designed to detect early signs of skin cancer, head to toe.

2

Single mole review

Rapid assessment and high-quality imaging for a specific growth that has changed colour, shape or size.

3

Digital mole mapping

FotoFinder full-body imaging with AI-supported comparison, for baseline and ongoing surveillance.

4

High-risk patient monitoring

Personalised surveillance plans for patients with elevated risk factors.

5

Digital dermoscopy

Included in every assessment.
WHO SHOULD GET CHECKED

Who should consider a skin cancer screening?

Book an appointment if you've noticed a new or changing mole or lesion, if you're unsure whether a mark is a wart, a freckle or something needing attention, or if you've been comparing your skin against pictures online and are concerned. Screening is also sensible on a routine basis if you've previously had BCC, SCC or melanoma, if skin cancer runs in your family, if you have fair skin, many moles, or a history of heavy sun exposure or sunbed use, or if you're immunosuppressed.

Early detection genuinely changes the picture. It widens your treatment options and improves the likelihood of a full recovery. Most lesions we examine turn out to be benign, and that answer, delivered by a specialist, is worth having too.
WHICH DO YOU NEED?

Screening, mole mapping, or both?

A clinician-led examination: expert eyes and dermoscopy over every area of skin. Ideal as a one-off answer or an annual habit.

Adds standardised imaging that records your skin, so future changes are detected by comparison rather than memory. Ideal for many moles or ongoing monitoring.
Many higher-risk patients combine both: a mapped baseline plus an annual consultant review. Your clinician will recommend honestly, including telling you if you don't need the more comprehensive option.

If anything suspicious is found, you're already in the right place: biopsy, often same-day in our on-site theatre, and treatment are provided by the same consultant team, without re-referral or waiting lists.
Consultant-led care

Led by a Skin Cancer

Specialist You Can Trust.

Apex was founded by Mr Kuen Yeow Chin, Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Skin Cancer Lead at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. He works closely with consultant dermatologists in the NHS and private sector, and has extensive experience treating patients diagnosed with melanoma and other skin cancers.

Screening at Apex is delivered by consultant dermatologists, plastic surgeons and specialist skin cancer nurses, with digital dermoscopy at every appointment and same-day biopsy on site when a lesion needs an answer rather than an opinion. High-risk patients get a personalised surveillance plan, and second opinions are welcomed, with seamless continuity from other clinics, including Harley Street.

YOUR CARE, STEP BY STEP

A clear answer,
step by step

Most screenings are a single unhurried appointment: a full examination, dermoscopy where it matters, and an honest answer before you leave. If anything needs a biopsy, it can usually happen the same day.

01

Consultation.

Your history, risk factors and any specific concerns, discussed with a consultant dermatologist, plastic surgeon or advanced nurse specialist trained in dermoscopy.

02

Full examination

A top-to-toe skin check, including the areas that are hard to self-monitor. Digital dermoscopic imaging assesses the internal structure of any moles or lesions.

03

Findings, explained

Every lesion is classified as benign, worth monitoring, or needing further assessment, and explained in plain language while you're in the room.

04

Same-day next steps

If a biopsy is recommended, it can often be done the same day under local anaesthetic. Histology results are returned and explained quickly, with a treatment plan if one is needed.

05

Ongoing care

You leave with an honest recommendation: no follow-up needed, a sensible check-up rhythm, or a personalised surveillance plan.
Transparent Pricing

Screening pricing

The cost of your skin check depends on the level of assessment you need and whether any treatment follows. Your exact fee is confirmed when you book, and anything further is quoted in writing before you commit to it.

Full-body skin check

Every visible mole, lesion and skin irregularity assessed by an experienced clinician, with dermoscopy and advice on what to monitor. Your fee is confirmed when you book.

Single mole review

A focused assessment of the mole or lesion that's worrying you, with same-day biopsy where needed. Your fee is confirmed when you book.
Watching many moles rather than checking one? FotoFinder mole mapping runs from £380, with published tiers for follow-up and two-person appointments. Full documentation is provided for private health insurance claims.
ONGOING CARE

Your care doesn't end with an answer

we'll tell you honestly whether you need routine surveillance or just sensible sun habits and self-checks, and we'll show you how to check your own skin and what to look for.

structured aftercare tailored to your diagnosis and risk level. That can include scheduled skin checks every 3 to 12 months depending on your condition, mole mapping for high-risk patients, lymph node monitoring after a biopsy or clearance (including ultrasound or clinical review where needed), and practical sun-safety education.

Ongoing surveillance is usually advised for patients with previous melanoma, high-risk BCC or SCC, or Bowen's disease; for those who are immunosuppressed; after extensive sun damage or radiation; with more than 50 moles or atypical mole patterns; or with a family history of skin cancer. Our skin cancer nurses remain available throughout, for questions, worries, or anything that changes between appointments.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about skin cancer screening and diagnosis at Apex Medical

Anyone with a new or changing mole or lesion, a personal or family history of skin cancer, fair or sun-damaged skin, many moles, or simply a skin change they want assessed professionally. You don't need a referral, and you don't need to be sure something is wrong.

Your clinician explains what they see and, where needed, arranges a biopsy, often the same day, under local anaesthetic, in our on-site theatre. Histology results are returned within days and explained clearly, with a treatment plan if one is needed.

A full-body check typically takes 30 to 60 minutes including consultation. Single mole reviews are shorter.

No. The examination and dermoscopy are completely non-invasive. If a biopsy is needed, it's done under local anaesthetic.

For most people an annual check is sensible; higher-risk patients may be advised 3 to 12 monthly surveillance. Your clinician will recommend a personalised schedule, and will tell you honestly if you don't need frequent checks.

Yes. We regularly provide second opinions and can continue care seamlessly from other providers, including Harley Street clinics, without delays or waiting lists.

Not always. Many patients need only short-term follow-up. Longer plans are usually reserved for higher-risk conditions or previous melanoma.

Yes, and we encourage it. We'll show you how to self-check and what to look for. Early reporting usually means simpler treatment.
